Part of Rab's top end Expedition range, the Rab Expedition Jacket has seen use on countless High Altitude and Polar expeditions. In combination with the Rab Expedition Pant, it makes a versatile and extremely warm down expedition suit, specialised for the specific requirements of remote polar and high altitude expeditions.
The Expedition Jacket uses some of the highest quality Down insulation available to provide as much warmth as possible at the lowest available weight. 850+ Goose Down is the only material on the market that can provide sufficient warmth for expeditions at the poles or altitude without excessive weight. In order to provide maximum warmth, the Expedition uses a Box Wall Construction. This means that instead of stitching the baffles through, there is a thin layer of material bridging the outer and inner of the jacket. The effect of this is two-fold; it eliminates cold spots common in stitch through baffled jackets and it also creates a much more thermally efficient insulative layer.
Tackling any expedition with the extreme conditions you may expect at altitude or at the poles is going to require more than just warmth. The outer of the Expedition jacket consists of the highly abrasion resistant and weatherproof Pertex Endurance. This uses an air permeable coating that is highly breathable, water resistant and windproof to protect the goose down from the elements in order to maintain loft and retain warmth. In addition to the durable nature of the Pertex endurance, there are also durable patches over the key wear points to add extra protection where needed.
The whole jacket is optimised for use in extreme conditions - massive pockets, large easy-use zip with zip baffles and a hood fixed for security and warmth. Add to this the multitude of extra features and pockets and you have one of the warmest jackets available in the world today, able to provide the reassurance you need when tackling giant Himalayan peaks or the frozen lands of the poles.
