For adventurous expeditions in harsh conditions, the Mountain Equipment Glacier 1000 XL is the bag of choice for many tall experienced mountaineers. Over fifty years, Mountain Equipment have been honing their designs to consistently offer sleeping bags that are amongst the best available. Many of the technical innovations now found as standard on most quality bags were originally developed by Mountain Equipment, who supply gear for expeditions to the most remote and hazardous regions of the globe. The Glacier range incorporates many of these features; combined with high fill-power down and a water-resistant outer this makes the Glaciers suitable for all but the most serious ventures.
With a new colour scheme for 2013, the Glacier 1000 XL is closely related to the Mountain Equipment Extreme range, many of the same features having been adapted to balance excellent warmth and low weight with cost. A new, lighter DriLite Loft II shell fabric is durably water-resistant, with a hydrostatic head of 1500mm, while the lining is lightweight Supersoft 20, which is exceptionally lightweight, breathable and comfortable against the skin. The extra-long fit is designed to maximise down coverage and loft all over, making for excellent thermal efficiency and shaped to allow the taller sleeper to lie in a natural position. Trapezoidal baffles throughout add to the stability of the bag and control the distribution of down, meaning that the bag will last through years of use. The full-length zip makes access a doddle, and also allows venting from either end when using the bag above the minimum temperature. In line with its expedition credentials, the Glacier 1000 XL is supplied with a watertight, roll-top compression sack as well as a mesh storage bag, making it one of the best bags available for wide-ranging expeditions and mountaineering trips in cold conditions.
