Crux X2 Storm
Everything you could want in a mountain tent is delivered by the Crux X2 Storm. This tent is the epitome of high-performance for high-mountain use; amazingly stable, robust and generous in the right places, it is nevertheless one of the lightest mountain tents available. Incorporated into the 4-pole asymmetric geodesic design are many carefully considered features that are only there because they either enhance the useability or reduce the weight: the way innovation should be.
Take the poles for example. Crux's ARCHitekture poles have a pre-shaped bend at the apex, which reduces stress on the pole, increases rigidity in strong winds, and vastly decreases the likelihood of snow settling on the top of the tent, all in one fell swoop. You get increased headroom at the top of the arch too!
Then there's the asymmetric design. Most double-skin mountain tents are symmetrical, with a small entrance at each end. Crux have turned this around by extending one of the porch poles, meaning that the single entrance is larger and therefore more useable for cooking and access. The other end is then stronger and more aerodynamic, but still provides storage space accessible from the inner.
So how does a tent this functional weigh under three kilos? By using top-quality materials that are tough enough for the job but still lightweight, and stripping out things like buckles and webbing on the peg loops for tensioning and secondary covers over mesh on the inner - 'nice-to-have's when you're not counting the grams. Serious mountaineers and mountain trekkers alike will find that the X2 Storm is that rare combination: low weight and outstanding strength.
